Riverlinx CJV was awarded as the deserving winner of 4 categories at NCE Tunnelling Awards 2023

We are proud to announce that Riverlinx CJV was awarded as the deserving winner of 4 CATEGORIES: Innovation in Tunnel Boring Machinery & Systems, Young Tunneller of the Year, Tunnelling Contractor of the Year and Tunnelling Project of the Year (over $200M) at NCE Tunnelling Awards on 7 December in London. This year’s event was a record breaking when it comes to the number of entries and attendees. Over 450 key industry figures gathered to celebrate the global tunnelling community and to explore the innovations and initiatives driving the sector forward.

Following a rigorous judging process, Riverlinx CJV emerged as the winner of Innovation in Tunnel Boring Machinery & Systems for their work on organisations driving innovation in tunnel boring machinery and the systems that support them. This can be new products, machinery or technologies used in tunnel boring that help improve efficiency, safety, or environmental impacts. The judges praised them for an exemplary submission clearly explaining the challenges and the team's approach to bringing together design, construction, TBM and lifting specialists together to solve it with some highly innovative approaches which were clearly both successful in meeting the space and alignment constraints and proved practical in use and show a way forward for the wider industry.

Riverlinx CJV was also awarded the winner of Tunnelling Contractor of the Year and Tunnelling Project of the Year (over $200M). The first award seeks to recognise the very best tunnelling contractor who can demonstrate the achievement of clear business milestones. Judges commented for this category that Riverlinx CJV performed strongly across all criteria, importantly demonstrating effective collaboration and how this is key to successful project delivery with a commitment to environmental impacts.

Besides, the judges praised Riverlinx CJV for the excellence in delivery of a tunnelling project. They said “Silvertown Tunnel is a truly remarkable project that demonstrated excellence across all the award criteria. The use of innovative solutions in a heavily constrained site and the client satisfaction that derived from their success are proof of the achievements of the project. The sustainability goals achieved by the project both in design and construction are clear evidence of the continued push for excellence across the life of this project.”

Nominations for Young Tunneller of the Year went to a member of the tunnelling team on the Silvertown site.

Riverlinx has gone through a number of great milestones and we will continue to progress this project, ahead of the tunnel opening in 2025. Once open in 2025, the twin-bore 1.4km Silvertown Tunnel will link Newham to the Greenwich Peninsula and provide improved zero-emission bus links across the Thames.
